The cow has gone dry

We put a call in to Dr. Ocejo today as Kynlie has been puking a lot lately. It seems like she has been projectile vomiting after about half of her feeds. He said go take her off her iron, which she pukes up every time. To not put her Caffeine and Vitamin E in the same bottle anymore and to mix the Vitamin E in a whole bottle instead of in 15 ml. He said to also only give her 50-55 ml feeds instead of the 60 she had been getting. She also has to be held very still for at least an hour after she eats or laid in a semi-sitting position. I feel bad because if you want to do anything after you feed her, you have to put her in the swing right away after she is burped, but not swinging because that will make her puke too. I would love to cuddle her all day, but after not being home for 2 days short of 4 months, there is a lot I want to get done around the house. She hasn't been wanting to eat very much at night either, which sucks because I have to wake up to try feeding her every 3 hours because her stomach is not big enough for her to make up the amount she would miss if we went 4 hours.

I also have quit producing milk. It's very frustrating because the 4 months she was in the hospital, I made enough to feed a small army, now that she's home and I can nurse her, I don't even make enough for one feed. I got some herbal tea that is supposed to help increase my supply so we'll see if it works. Until then, we are just using what we have frozen and she is getting bottled all feeds and I am pumping every 3 hours to see if it will make a difference. This means that Neil is going to wake up and bottle her while I pump for the night feeds. I am not upset about not being able to breastfeed her, because we know how much she is getting when she is bottling, but I am upset that it has gone from one extreme to the other. I think it's from the stress of bringing her home, lack of sleep and not pumping enough to keep my supply up until she is eating more.

Sterling is not sure what to think of this whole situation. He's been pretty unsocial since we brought Kynlie home. To make matters worse, he desperately needed a hair cut so he got one today, which he hates, and when I picked him up, the groomer said he has an ear infection. So, off to the vet we go, Sterling's other favorite place!! The vet wasn't in but we got some salve to put in his ear and we have to go back on Monday for the vet to look at it. He's feeling pretty abused and neglected.

Finally home

January 26, 2010, the wonderful day that we finally got to bring our beautiful baby girl home. She had an outfit made especially for this big day by Kristin Merwin, thanks so much Kristin, it's beautiful. As you can see by the picture, she really could've cared less, but it was very special for Neil and I.

She had a cake made especially for her by one of her wonderful nurses. It even matched her going home outfit.

We loaded her up in her car seat, as you can see, she could still care less about anything.

We got our family picture taken before we headed out the door. There were lots of hugs, one of her nurses even came on her day off to say bye to Kynlie. They all got pretty attached after almost 4 months.



She has adjusted very well to being home. Neil has a cough so he's been wearing a mask. Sterling is not quite sure what to think of her, he definetly doesn't like her monitor's alarm. He did decide to crawl up on Neil's lap and cuddle with him and Kynlie.

She has been a great baby to have around. She rarely cries unless she is hungry, she loves to cuddle, she grunts, a lot, she's been eating great, except at 3am. She has been very good at making sure that all of her blankets and outfits are getting used by either puking or pooping all over everything. Her alarm rarely goes off which is a relief.

Today is her actual due date. It's hard to imagine her not being here until now, although the last 4 months would've been a lot less stressful.

A look back at 2009

January

Miscarried our first IVF attempt. Went to Cancun.

February

Celebrated 4 years of married bliss.

March

Went skiing at Red Lodge with the Moore Family. Started getting my body ready for another cycle of IVF.

April

Started injections for round 2 IVF. Enjoy Gina and Matthew moving to Baker while Ken is in Iraq. Pray hard for his safety.

May

Went to Seattle for 2 weeks to do IVF. Got positive pregnancy test!!

June

Had another miscarriage scare. Found out we were pregnant with twins, but were told that one may not survive. Felt very nauseus.

July

Saw 2 healhy fetuses in my ultrasound. Derby season began. Finally started feeling well again. Mourned the loss of Aunt Beth. Went boating at Shade Hill.

August

Neil won Baker's Demolition Derby. Was looking very pregnant.

September

Went camping at Yellowstone Park for Labor Day. Baby A's water broke due to Staph infection on the 28th.

October

Kirsten Hope was still born on Oct 8. Kynlie Faith was born on the 9th. Moved into the Ronald McDonald house in Bismarck,ND. Neil turned 30.

November

Neil has been coming to Bismarck every weekend except Thanksgiving when he goes to Denver to watch the Giant's play. I was in Shantel & Trevor's wedding.

December

Still in Bismarck. Kynlie is doing well and gets to start breastfeeding on Christmas Eve. We spend Christmas Day snowed in in Dickinson.

For later

I created this blog mainly for Kynlie. I want to be able to share her progress that she will continue to make when she goes home with all of the people that have followed her progress on the Caring Bridge site while she was in the NICU. I will try and do updates on Kynlie often, but will also post other happenings in our family.
